CLINICAL MASSAGE THERAPIES

NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY

Neuromuscular therapy is a form of soft tissue massage that aims to alleviate chronic muscle and nervous system disorders and problems. It is mainly used to address trigger points, circulation, nerve compression, postural problems and repetitive movement injuries.

FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a unique form of assisted stretching that targets the body's fascia. Fascia is the web-like connective tissue surrounding muscles, bones and joints. Unlike traditional stretching, FST incorporates a combination of traction, oscillation and neuromuscular techniques to elongate and release tension in the fascia. This approach improves flexibility, mobility and joint function, while also addressing imbalances and restrictions within the fascial system.

ORTHOPAEDIC MASSAGE

Orthopaedic massage is a type of injury rehabilitation that focuses on the muscles and soft tissues surrounding joints. The aim of orthopedic massage is to relieve pain while restoring balance to the tissues and create a fuller range of motion.

TRIGGER POINT THERAPY

The objective of trigger point therapy is releasing or softening a muscle knot to reduce (or eliminate) the knot pain and associated pain. This release happens by applying various levels of pressure to muscle knots, and then stretching the affected areas through a complete range of motion. After a single session, you’ll start to see changes to your body, mind and energy levels.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

This is a hands-on body treatment that utilises slow, firm pressure to release muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). It leaves patients feeling relaxed and renewed. I really enjoy showing my patients how just a few treatments can make an enormous difference to their health.

STRESS MANAGEMENT

Massage therapy has been shown to be a means by which stress can be reduced significantly on physical and psychological levels. Massage decreases the level of stress hormones by up to 30% which helps to alleviate depression and anxiety. It also increases immune function and improves concentration. Stress Management/Relaxation Massage also treats stress-related tensions held in the body by easing muscular tension and increasing circulation. Immediately after your session, you will feel relaxed and less stressed. The cumulative effects of regular massage are even better.

CUPPING THERAPY

Silicone Cupping Therapy involves gliding pressurised cups over specific areas of the body. The suction creates a vacuum and a negative tension pressure ideal for tissue lift and separation. While massage generally involves compression of soft tissues, cupping therapy provides lift. The benefit of using both together is greatly improved circulation, mobility and fascial lengthening. Cupping Therapy is versatile and can easily be modified to accomplish a range of techniques, from lymphatic drainage to deep tissue release.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

Myofascial release is a bodywork technique in which the practitioner applies gentle, directional pressure to restricted fascia, to alleviate pain and restore normal muscle function. Fascia is a connective tissue which surrounds every muscle, bone, nerve and organ in the body. Not to be confused with foam rolling, myofascial release involves hands-on slow, steady, gentle releases.

BABY & TODDLER MASSAGE INSTRUCTOR

Clinical studies have shown that regularly massaging babies will help them develop an emotional, physical, and intellectual advantage that they will carry through their entire life. Those conclusions have been drawn from over 40 years of research, with results so positive that it has led to baby massage being recognized as having great benefits for the child. So much so that it’s now common to see baby massage training offered in neo-natal programs and parent education classes. One of the most recent studies, which was conducted at the University of Miami, showed increased neurological development in babies that received regular massaging over those that did not. Besides making them more active and alert, baby massage also helps little ones when they uncurl from the fetal position. It helps them stretch out those muscles and joints while also making them more flexible and coordinated. It has also proven effective in promoting weight gain and body awareness. Other interesting facts garnered from the study showed that full term babies that received regular massages seemed to be happier and less stressed, while also developing in both mind and body. They also appeared to have improved circulation and digestion.
